Welcome to notepad
This is notepad, something I coded up on a boring afternoon. The template was designed for long texts or essays. I revolved everything around this, especially the colors. If you're going to be reading online, harsh contrast starts hurting your eyes pretty quickly. So I softened everything down, and used greys instead of white and black as much as possible. I've also kept graphics to a minimum, to keep everything simple and reduce file size. The line pattern will stay the same no matter how long or short the main content box is. However if you change the font you might have to move things around to keep the text on the lines.
Web standards
As usual, the template validates as Xhtml Transitional and uses Css instead of tables. This means smaller file size, shorter loading times, a clean and modern looking design, and most importantly, its dead simple to edit. Unfortunately I don't have a copy of Opera or Netscape, but the design has been tested and renders well in both Internet Explorer and Firefox; the two most common browsers. I also made sure it fits on the screen for both major resolutions. I do request that you leave my name somewhere on the design, whether it be in the footer or as a comment in the HTML.
